About Todd

Todd Sharkey is the Chief Credit Officer at Sunrise Banks. He oversees functions related to providing credit and managing risks present in the bank’s credit portfolio.

Todd first joined Sunrise Banks in 2017 as Director of Credit and Underwriting. He returned to Sunrise Banks in 2021 in his current role. Todd has nearly 20 years of experience in the banking and financial services industry, including roles at Associated Bank and Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union.

Todd oversees many complex projects to help the company streamline and standardize its services to enable future growth. He says all that work is worth it.

“What excites me most about working at Sunrise Banks is supporting our community and learning about all the ways we have helped countless businesses and people access financial services that otherwise would have been challenged to do so,” he says.

Love of Learning

Todd says the core value he embraces most is Always Learning. “I am a lifelong learner and enjoy learning more about people, processes, and ways to do things better,” he says. “Plus, I am also naturally curious. I ask a lot of questions – many times it is because I have an interest in that subject or just want to learn more.”

Todd earned his bachelor’s degree in financial management and economics from the University of Minnesota – Morris and his M.A. in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Community Involvement

Todd has served in several board and leadership positions for the Minnesota chapter of the Risk Management Association. Currently, he chairs the student outreach committee. He also served as chapter president, past president, treasurer and education committee chair.

Todd also serves as a Finance Council and Stewardship Committee member for St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and as School Advisory Chair and Committee Member for St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School in St. Anthony, Minn.

Family and Personal Interests

Todd lives with his wife Becky, children Arianna (16), Amelia (13) and Samuel (7), and cat, (Kit Kat). The family lost another son in 2007 due to complications from heart disease. Todd also advocates for his young son who is on the autism spectrum. “He keeps me on my toes!” he says.

Todd lives with an autoimmune condition called Vitiligo, which causes patches of skin to lose pigment. “I am often asked why my eyebrows are white. This is why,” he says.

Todd enjoys working on house and yard projects, reading finance books or Agatha Christie novels, going on cruises with his wife, spending time at his parents’ farm in southwestern Minnesota and exploring the communities and natural amenities that surround Lake Superior.
