Sunrise is a Certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). The CDFI Fund works to generate economic growth and opportunity in our nation’s most distressed communities by injecting new sources of capital into neighborhoods that lack financing.
This certification, conferred by an agency under the U.S. Department of the Treasury, is held by approximately 100 banks in the U.S. Sunrise was the first CDFI bank in Minnesota.

Sunrise Banks’ holding company, University Financial Corp, GBC, became a Public Benefit Corporation on Jan. 2, 2015, the day the designation became legally available in Minnesota.
