The World’s Leading Values-Based Bankers, and Progressive International Thinkers and Doers, Meet to Explore the Financial Industry’s Role in Creating a More Sustainable Future

February 18, 2021

The Global Alliance for Banking on Values’ meeting is a unique event that unites global banking leaders to present insights into the future of finance and its role in building a more just, green and resilient economy.

(St. Paul, Minn. | Feb. 18, 2021) – Sunrise Banks will host the Global Alliance for Banking on Values annual meeting in early March, inviting hundreds of banking leaders from around the world to take part in two days of programming focused on inspiring lasting positive change in the financial industry.

This year’s meeting takes place 2-4 March and is the 13th get-together of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values, an international coalition of banking institutions focused on using finance to deliver sustainable economic, social and environmental development. The meeting is themed, “Shaping the Future of Finance: Values-based Banking for a Changing World.”

This years’ meeting is an opportunity for Sunrise Banks to showcase its work as a Community Development Financial Institution on a global scale.

The event will feature sessions from the likes of Dr. Johan Rockström, a globally renowned sustainability expert, and former Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, among others.

Addressing the climate emergency will be an important theme of the meeting. Sunrise Banks was one of 28 banks that committed to track the carbon emissions of its loan portfolio as signatories to the Global Alliance for Banking on Values’ Climate Change Commitment, launched in 2019. Fintech and its ability to foster greater economic inclusion will also be one of the event’s main topics.

Sessions on CEOs’ role in promoting reconciliation in a world of division, the potential for a central-bank digital currency and the political and economic landscape in Minnesota after an unprecedented year will also be incorporated in this year’s meeting.

“It’s an honor that Sunrise Banks is able to host this global event, bringing scientists, economists and academics from around the world together to discuss the biggest issues of the day,” said Sunrise Banks CEO David Reiling. “This meeting is also unique in its main tenet, which is that banks can pave the way in creating positive change in ways that go beyond just financial wellness. This is a special event that we’re thrilled to be a part of.”

The annual meeting will offer continuous content throughout its duration, catering to viewers from different time zones and hemispheres. It will include a combination of live-streamed and pre-recorded content.
