(St. Paul, Minn. | Feb. 17, 2023) — Sunrise Banks has added four new members to its board of directors to help guide the bank’s mission of social responsibility.
Paula Martin joined the board in November of 2022 while Jennifer Docherty, Karen Garrett and Kirat Sekhon were appointed throughout 2022.
Martin has deep experience in impact banking, having served most recently as advisor to the CEO at Vancity, a values-based credit union based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where she previously held several executive roles. She has also worked as senior advisor to the Netherlands-based Global Alliance for Banking on Values, a network of independent banks using finance to deliver sustainable economic, social and environmental development.
Martin will chair the board’s operations and human resources committee.
Docherty joined the board in June of 2022 while Garrett was appointed in January 2022. Docherty is a senior financial and legal advisor with more than two decades of experience and currently acts as managing director and associate general counsel at Piper Sandler. Docherty is also the cofounder, director and chief executive officer of Bank on Women, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the industry about the importance of women in senior leadership and promoting more women on the board and in the C-suite.
Garrett is a retired payments attorney who currently sits on TCB Enterprises’ board of advisors and is a board director of both the Heartland Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors and New Covenant Trust Company.
Sekhon joined the board in September of 2022 and is the head of product engineering at Thomson Reuters for their tax and accounting customer segment; she has more than 20 years of experience in software development and a decade of experience in technology leadership.
Docherty chairs the board’s finance and audit committee. Garrett is the chair of the board’s revenue committee and Sekhon chairs the board’s technology committee.
